Police: Woman found dead in jail cell killed herself

MCKEESPORT (AP) – Police in Western Pennsylvania say a woman who had been arrested on a charge of public drunkenness hanged herself in a Pittsburgh-area jail cell.


The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office says the 52-year-old woman was found unresponsive in the McKeesport police station about 9:30 p.m. Friday.


Police and paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive her, but she was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.


After an autopsy Saturday the medical examiner’s office determined the woman killed herself.
