One killed in Waynesburg accident
WAYNESBURG – A 29-year-old coal miner from Jefferson was killed early Sunday morning when the pickup truck he was driving westbound on High Street, Waynesburg, went out of control and slid sideways into the path of a car driven by Kathleen M. Brown, 49, of Waynesburg, who was traveling east.
Derrick B. Stubrich was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 6:46 a.m. accident by Greene County Coroner Gregory Rohanna.
Brown was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., by medical helicopter, where she was listed in fair condition Monday.
Waynesburg Borough police Chief Timothy Hawfield said it is believed Stubrich was traveling at an excessive speed, which did not give Brown time to react, he said. The chief also said Stubrich was on his way to work at the Bailey Mine in Richhill Township.
