Three swimmers, one relay named all-state

Three local swimmers and one relay team earned all-state honors yesterday at the first day of the PIAA Class AA swim and dive championships at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium.

The South Fayette girls 200-yard medley relay team of Mary Rosati, Morgan Fink, Maddie Bartrug and Tiana Marrese led the way with a fourth-place finish in 1 minute, 49.02 seconds.

Taking sixth place was Charleroi’s Luke Simpson, who finished the 50 freestyle in 21.68 seconds.

South Fayette diver Gracie Klimek earned all-state honors by placing seventh with 349.30 points, and Fink was eighth in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.75.

Honorable mention times included Rosati’s eight-place finish in the 200 IM and the South Fayette girls’ 200 freestyle relay team of Bartrug, Sydney Briner, Sophia Hestad and Tiana Marrese. That group was 13th in 1:42.32.

Bartrug placed 15th in the girls 50 freestyle with a time of 24.92 seconds.

The four-day event resumes this morning, with Rosati and Fink seeded high in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke (seventh and third). The South Fayette girls are third in the 400 freestyle relay.
