Kinston tops Pigsah 51-40 for first 2A state title
Lydia Rivers had 13 points and nine rebounds to lead Kinston to a 51-40 victory over Canton Pisgah and the school's first Class 2-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association women's championship.Jada Faison chipped in with 13 points and Monique Lofton had 11 points and five rebounds for Kinston. Brittany Drumgoole also came up big for Kinston with eight points, six assists and five rebounds.Faison put Kinston up 28-27 with 16 seconds left in the third quarter with a free throw. Kinston erupted for 23 points in the final quarter.Kinston held Canton Pigsah to just 30 percent shooting from the floor and took a 51-40 edge in rebounding.Sheridan Pressley and Brooklyn Allen each had 13 points and four rebounds to lead Canton Pigsah, which failed in its bid to win its first state title since 1989. Mariah Lewis had seven points and eight rebounds.
