Police beat March 21
Vehicle theft: Timothy Grace, 27, of Belle Vernon, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He is accused of failing to return a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer after being lent the vehicle by William DePaoli Jr. in July. Grace was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and placed in the Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
Escape, flight charges: Andrew Bonus, 27, of 1292 Donnan Ave., Washington, was charged Wednesday by Canonsburg police with escape and flight to avoid apprehension stemming from a Feb. 26 incident in which he allegedly escaped out a window when Washington County probation officers tried to arrest him on a warrant. Probation officers went to an apartment at 14 E. Pike St. to serve the warrant after learning that Bonus was staying there, police said. When officers knocked, his girlfriend reportedly waited several minutes before opening the door. Bonus was not there, but was later found walking on a nearby street. Police said he admitted to jumping out the window of the apartment. The charges will be sent by summons. Bonus remains in the Washington County jail on the warrant.
Truck found: A 2011 GMC pickup truck reported stolen early Saturday from outside Trio Lounge, North Main Street, was recovered Monday at the Washington County Fairgrounds, Chartiers police said.
Escapes injury: Jonathan E. Martin, 21, of Avella escaped injury Monday morning when his vehicle slid off an icy Scenic Drive near Cardinal Lane, Independence, and hit a tree before sliding over an embankment, state police said.
Burglary reported: Gary Casper of 212 Lakeview Drive told South Strabane police Tuesday that the garage in a detached carriage house on his property was entered and items stolen from vehicles parked inside the building. Cash was stolen from one vehicle, and cash and a radar detector taken from another vehicle.
Hit by vehicle: Daniel Berdine of Avella was struck by a pickup truck while working Saturday morning at Home Depot, South Strabane police said. Berdine was unloading items from a box truck using a skid loader. He heard two men arguing and then saw them get into a green Ford F250 pickup truck. The vehicle sped off, hitting Berdine and pushing him into some landscaping items. There was no indication whether Berdine was injured.
