Retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander

Lt. Cmdr. Thomas Bruce Cullen, 55, of Wilmington, N.C., died unexpectedly Friday, March 22, 2013, in Aberdeen, N.C.

He was born October 8, 1957, in Lakewood, Ohio, a son of Col. Thomas Bruce and Martha Ann Mylius Cullen, who survive and reside in Jacksonville, Fla.

Lt. Cmdr. Cullen was a 1976 graduate of Woodbridge Senior High School in Woodbridge, Va. He graduated with bachelor of science degrees in zoology from Ohio University and in computer science from St. Mary’s College in Nebraska.

He entered the U.S. Air Force while residing in Omaha, Neb., and later transferred to the U.S. Navy, retiring as a lieutenant commander in 2004.

Deceased is his first wife, Cynthia Ann Rostosky Cullen, who died October 8, 2001.

Surviving are a son, Sgt. Christopher Cullen and wife Amy, currently stationed in Italy; daughter Kimberly Cullen Dufault and husband Darin of Charleston, S.C.; wife Christa Cohan Cullen of Wilmington; sister Patricia Cullen of Jacksonville; brother John Cullen of Wisconsin; mother-in-law Helen Majchrycz Rostosky of Monongahela; brother-in-law Pete Rostosky and wife Connie of McMurray; sister-in-law Sandy Bylicki and husband Jeff of Monongahela; and several nieces and nephews.

He also leaves his beloved dog, Cocoa.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, with the Rev. Jeffrey Winters officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with full military honors accorded graveside by the U.S. Navy. Condolences may be made to the family at
