Shale extraction is safe

Recently released court documents in a supposed water contamination case have given the alarmist media a black eye.

Remember when the “sealed documents” in a case involving the operations in Washington County of Mark West Liberty Midstream & Resources, Williams Energy and Range Resources suggested the companies were hiding the truth? Remember the homeowner’s bold claims regarding harm to their health and that of their children? And remember how the media bought the whole story and never once considered an alternative narrative?

As the documents show, the claims were unfounded, and the homeowner actually signed a sworn affidavit saying there was “no medical evidence” to support their claims. And, as it turns out, the documents were sealed at the request of everyone involved, including the plaintiffs.

The family is healthy, and natural gas development continues to provide benefits to Pennsylvania. In fact, recent studies show increased natural gas use is actually having a positive impact on our state’s health by improving our air quality. Maybe the media will be more careful next time before suggesting otherwise.
