Softball: West Greene’s Bennington strikes out 12 in debut

Freshman Bailey Bennington’s debut for West Greene was a success as the Pioneers defeated Avella 5-3 in a non-section game Monday.

Bennington, the winning pitcher, struck out 12, walked only one and threw a six-hitter. Avella (0-1) scored in only one inning.

West Greene (1-0) built a 5-0 lead, getting a key two-run pinch-hit triple from Larissa Jones in the fifth inning. Alyssa Raber had two of the Pioneers’ eight hits.

Abby Dobbin went 2-for-4 for Avella.
