Helen H. Johnston

Helen H. Johnston, 88, of Waynesburg, formerly of Central City, died at 2 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, April 20, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., 197 N. Maiden St., Waynesburg. A complete obituary will appear in a later edition.

Lois Thelma King

Lois Thelma King, 87, of Hesston, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.

She was born November 10, 1925, in Washington, a daughter of Lawrence Cowden and Thelma Rumbaugh Cowden.

Mrs. King was a graduate of Hickory High School and was a homemaker.

She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and reading.

Before moving to Hesston, Mrs. King was a member of Crossroads United Presbyterian Church.

On June 19, 1946, she married Jesse C. King, who died August 29, 2001.

Surviving are a son, Jesse C. King Jr. (Annette) of Washington; two daughters, Karen E. King of Hesston and Dorris K. Hayden (James) of Huntington; two brothers, William (Lois) Cowden and Russell (Phyllis) Cowden; two sisters, Belva White and Evelyn Athey; six grandchildren, Sara Hayden, Matthew King, J.C. Hayden, Ian Hayden, Jessica King and Elyse King; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob Hayden, Emilie Hayden, Aliss Hayden, and Camden Henderson; and two brothers-in-law, Edward Schmidt and Jim King.

Deceased are two brothers, Alvin and Joseph Cowden; and two sisters, Ila Snyder and Nancy Schmidt.

Friends will be received from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, April 13, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. Scott Bunting officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery. George Kupar Jr.

George Kupar Jr., 85, of Washington, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

He was born May 13, 1927, in Isabella, a son of George Kupar Sr. and Susan Kundrat Kupar.

Mr. Kupar was a 1945 graduate of Ellsworth High School and was a coal miner for Beth Energy.

An avid baseball fan, he pitched for a Cleveland Indians farm team in 1948. He also enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Kupar was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church in Charleroi.

On September 1, 1956, he married Gertrude L. Saveikis, who died May 18, 2007.

Surviving are a son, George J. Kupar of Washington; a daughter, Karen Zumpetta of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; a sister, Helen Magera of Cokeburg; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Alexandra Zumpetta.

Deceased are two sisters, Mary Wasulko and Theresa Krajnak.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 15, in Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, Charleroi, with Father James Ragan as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray. Memorial contributions may be made to Donnell House, Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.

Frances J. Lucy Macosko

Frances J. Lucy Macosko, 89, of Bentleyville, died Thursday morning, April 11, 2013, in her home.

Friends are welcome from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville.

George J. Pecharka Sr.

George J. Pecharka Sr., 81, of Canonsburg, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

Larry D. Putnak

Larry D. Putnak, 71, of Monongahela, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born June 20, 1941, in Monongahela, he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth Appolonia Putnak.

Mr. Putnak retired in 1999 from U.S. Steel’s Clairton Works, where he worked as a electrical field supervisor / manager.

He was a 1959 graduate of Monongahela High School and a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish (Transfiguration Church) in Monongahela.

Mr. Putnak was a member of 4H and enjoyed hunting and fishing. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time restoring older John Deere farm tractors and raising livestock with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Linda (Miller) Putnak, whom he married November 5, 1962; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey R. and Lisa Putnak of Eighty Four; a daughter and son-in-law, Lauren E. and Mark Bosanac of Valley Inn; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah M. and Chuck Zaugg and Helen Jean and Joseph Kish, all of Bethel Park; three grandchildren, Lindsey and Krista Bosanac and Eric Putnak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, James and Joseph Putnak.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, 724-258-6767, Funeral prayers will begin in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 15, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Damien of Molokai Parish, Transfiguration Church, Monongahela, with Father William Terza as celebrant. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.

Joseph P. Tomsic Jr.

Joseph P. Tomsic Jr., 71, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, after a short illness.

He was the beloved husband of Barbara for 47 years; loving father of Tammy (Eric) Bowman, Tracey Tomsic Toth and Paul J. Tomsic; caring grandfather of Derek and Kayla Bowman, Reid and Tyler Toth; son of Ann Tomsic and the late Joseph P. Tomsic Sr.; and brother of Greg (Kathy) Tomsic and Carol Jelinek.
