A state police spokeswoman said Friday that the trooper sentenced to jail in the 2012 death of an Edinboro man gave up his position earlier this month.
Jeffrey Dalessandro, 36, of Canonsburg, resigned as a trooper on April 1, state police spokeswoman Maria Finn indicated in an email Friday.
Dalessandro was sentenced Thursday by Erie County President Judge Ernest J. DiSantis Jr. to three to six years in a state prison in the 2012 crash that killed 21-year-old Daryl Leroy Nunemaker. He pleaded no contest to charges of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol in March after other charges against him were withdrawn,
Dalessandro, who had most recently worked at the Pittsburgh and Washington stations of Troop B, joined the state police in January 2003.
