WAYNESBURG – Construction is under way on a new Tractor Supply Co. store at Waynesburg Plaza in Franklin Township.
Tractor Supply is the largest retail farm and ranch supply store chain in the nation and has been operating in Pennsylvania since 1965, according to a company news release. The Waynesburg store will be the company’s 68th Pennsylvania location.
Waynesburg Tractor Supply will be in the former Shop ’n Save space at 55 Sugar Run Road and will employ 12 to 17 full- and part-time employees. The store will include sales floor and support service space. A fenced exterior space will be used for storage and displaying items such as fencing, sprayers and livestock equipment.
“Tractor Supply looks forward to being a member of the Waynesburg community,” said district manager Jerry Robinson. “Waynesburg is a great fit due to the part-time and hobby farmers and horse owners in the area.”
The contractor for the project, Marco Contractors Inc. of Warrendale, began construction April 8. A completion date has been tentatively set for late June.
It was first announced that the company planned to open a store in Franklin Township in February 2012 when plans for renovations at the plaza were approved by township supervisors. The company, however, only received a building permit for the work in February of this year. It is leasing the space from plaza owner Manny Khoshbin Co. of Irvine, Calif.
Tractor Supply Co. operates more than 1,175 stores in 45 states. Its stores focus on supplying the lifestyle needs of recreational farmers and ranchers. The company also serves the maintenance needs of those who enjoy the rural lifestyle, tradesmen and small businesses.
The company offers merchandise for the health, care, growth and containment of horses, livestock and pets; a selection of agricultural products; and tools and hardware. In addition, the company sells light truck equipment, work clothing and seasonal products.
