Enrollment begins for arts academy

The Mon Valley Performing Arts Academy is accepting students for its Summer Experience 2013.

Summer Experience is an intensive musical theater experience for 8- to 17-year-olds that will be held July 22 to Aug. 3 in Steele Hall at California University of Pennsylvania. Students take classes each morning in acting, voice and dance, then spend the afternoon rehearsing a fully staged musical theater production. “Dear Edwina” will be staged Aug. 3.

The Mon Valley Performing Arts Academy, founded in 1998, received accreditation last month from the National Association of Schools of Theatre, the same organization that accredited Cal U.’s bachelor of arts in theater program in 2005.

Deadline to appy is June 7. To request registration materials, email Michele Pagen, artistic director of the academy and a professor in Cal U.’s Department of Theatre and Dance, at pagen@calu.edu.
