Pastor taking 31-mile hike to benefit churches
Beginning this morning at 8, the Rev. Roger Raymond Fischer will walk 31 miles in one day from Hopewell Presbyterian Church near Merrittstown, where he is a part-time pastor and moderator, to St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Brownsville, where he also is part-time pastor, and then on to his home in Washington. The walk is a fundraiser to benefit both congregations.
Last year, Fischer did this same walk and funds raised benefited a church in Mill Run that had burned down. It was later rebuilt.
Other people may join Fischer in his walk.
The walk is somewhat difficult and risky, because Route 40 is hilly and often has narrow berms and shoulders for walking, with lots of traffic.
Contributions can be mailed to Congregational Treasurer Deb Roscoe at 205 Fifth St., Brownsville, PA 15417.
