The Washington County coroner has ruled that the 2-year-old Canonsburg boy found unresponsive Monday in his family’s above-ground swimming pool drowned.
Blake Metzger of Richland Avenue was found about 5:50 p.m. by relatives. He was taken to Canonsburg General Hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said that a family member suffered a medical emergency at the home and adults were there assisting that family member. After a few minutes, a grandmother looked for the child and found him at the bottom of the pool.
Washington County 911 Center received two calls within five minutes for a medical emergency at the residence, Warco said.
Canonsburg police are wrapping up their investigation, deputy police Chief Harold Coleman said Tuesday.
“We will meet with the district attorney to review the facts of the case and go from there,” Coleman said. “We gathered the facts and evidence and will let him review the case. That is the best thing to do.”
Coleman said the information will be taken to the office of Washington County District Attorney Eugene Vittone today. Vittone told police it will take several days to review the information
A teddy bear, large toy truck and balloon were seen in the yard of the Richland Avenue home where the boy lived. Family members gathered at the residence refused an interview Tuesday afternoon, one man saying the family was too exhausted to talk to reporters.
