Charged in crash: Carmena Brooks, 41, of 40 Longview Drive, Avella, was charged Friday by state police in connection with a crash last month in the 1700 block of Jefferson Avenue, Canton. State police said a vehicle was stopped to make a left turn into a driveway with a pickup truck stopped behind that vehicle. Brooks’ sport utility vehicle hit the back of the truck, pushing it into the van. Brooks then drove around the two vehicles and continued west on Jefferson. Brooks was charged with leaving the scene of a crash, having bald tires, careless driving, reckless driving, failure to give information, failure to make immediate notification and having no inspection in connection with the May 30 crash. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
Assault charge: Joseph S. Work, 51, of 921 Wayne St., Canton, was charged Friday by state police with simple assault and harassment for allegedly assaulting his brother, Charles T. Work, 45, of Washington, during a confrontation at his Canton home. Police said the brothers were arguing over digging a hole for a swimming pool.
Drug charges: DeAngelo C. Smith, 28, of 728 Lincoln Ave., Charleroi, was arrested early Tuesday by Carroll police stemming from a traffic stop on Route 88 at Coyle Curtain Road. Smith was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by police. While police were checking the driver’s information, they saw the driver making several movements. The driver and Smith were removed from the vehicle. Police found a knife on Smith as well. A large bag of suspected crack fell from his pants leg. Smith was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of possession and possession with intent to deliver crack. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
Husband arrested: John Robert Doak, 34, of 629 Dry Ridge Road, Donegal, was arrested Monday by township police for allegedly assaulting and threatening his wife, Susan Doak, at their home. Susan Doak, who locked herself in her vehicle with her children, said that her estranged husband grabbed her by the throat and tried to choke her. He also threatened to kill her with a bicycle chain. She has a protection from abuse order against her husband. Doak was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of simple assault, harassment and terroristic threats. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $35,000 bond.
Two face charges: Brian C. Horner, 37, of 499 Baird Ave., Washington, and Wendy Pettit, 41, of 45 Laurel Ave., Washington, each face charges stemming from an incident Sunday at McDonald’s, West Chestnut Street. North Franklin police were called to the restaurant and found Pettit passed out in a booth. Emergency medical personnel had to administer Narcan to revive her. Horner was being confrontational with police. He was found with Suboxone. Horner is charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and possession of Suboxone. Pettit is charged with public drunkenness. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Truck stolen: Loretta L. Holland, 2995 Taft St., told North Franklin police Monday that her 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck was stolen from outside her home. The license is YTM-0572.
Drug charges: Dontae L. Patterson, 38, of 23 Harding Ave., Washington, will be charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana as well as driving under suspension stemming from a traffic stop Saturday on Franklin Farms Road at Park Avenue, North Franklin police said. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
DUI charge: Thomas A. Hripto, 37, of Pottstown, Montgomery County, faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, criminal mischief and traffic violations stemming from a June 5 crash in the driveway at the Ramada Inn, West Chestnut Street. North Franklin police said Hripto was going up the driveway when he went into the grass and hit a light pole. The light pole then fell, blocking the drive. He continued up to the motel. Police said his blood-alcohol content was 2 1/2 times the limit presumed for intoxication. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Stolen car found: A 2001 Dodge Stratus reported stolen Thursday by Richard Lee Sloneker Jr., 2894 W. Chestnut St., was later found over a hillside in the Lincoln Hill section of the township, North Franklin police said.
Theft charge: Kimberly D. Kover, 24, of 920 Weirich Ave., Canton Township, will be charged by North Franklin police with theft for allegedly stealing an iPod Touch owned by Katherine McMasters, 3136 W. Chestnut St., Saturday. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Batteries stolen: Richard Adametz of Belle Vernon told North Strabane police Monday that four 12-volt batteries were stolen from his rig while parked at Fyda Freightliner, 20 Fyda Drive.
Arrested on drug charges: Alicia H. Schultz, 28, of 168 Kimber Drive, McMurray, was arrested Friday by Peters police after her mother allegedly saw her preparing to inject herself with heroin. Township police said Schultz admitted to buying the drug a short time earlier. She was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of possession of heroin and paraphernalia. Schultz, who is on bond on earlier drug charges, had bond denied by Kanalis and was placed in the Washington County jail.
Retail theft: Three men entered Crossroads Eye Care, 4160 Washington Road, at 4:17 p.m. Monday, and fled with about a dozen pair of designer sunglasses from a display rack, township police said. The sunglasses are valued at more than $1,000, township police said. An employee noticed the men enter the store with one walking to the front reception area and the other two walking behind the display rack, police said. When all of the men left, the employee discovered the glasses were missing. The men fled north in the parking lot, police said.
One injured: A McMurray woman was injured when she was struck by a sport utility vehicle in the parking lot of Manor Care, 113 W. McMurray Road, at 12:50 p.m. Monday, township police said. Maryann Crabtree, 66, of Canterbury Lane, was treated at Canonsburg General Hospital, and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Police said Isabel Zehner, 21, of Windemere Court, McMurray, was backing out of a parking space and said she did not see Crabtree walking behind her.
Harassment charges: Melvin C. Ringer, 31, of Washington, is facing a charge of harassment over accusations he struck Amanda Ringer, 26, and Wendy Ringer, 30, both of Washington, and Brenda Leavines, 27, of Syracuse, N.Y., about 2:50 a.m. Sunday at 1180 Deerfield Road, state police said.
Woman charged: Janay S. Johnson, 24, of Pittsburgh, faces a charge of retail theft after she allegedly stole items from Gabriel Brothers, Northgate Plaza, Friday, South Strabane police said.
Mailbox stolen: Art Crompton, of 139 McChain Road, told Southwest Regional police his mailbox was stolen Saturday.
Arrested on drug charges: Tyler Yoders, 22, and Seth Yoders, 20, both of 322 Wolf Ave., were charged by city police Sunday after police said they found a small amount of marijuana and a glass pipe in their vehicle during a traffic stop at Jefferson Avenue and West Chestnut Street. Police said they also found a marijuana grinder in Tyler Yoders’ pants pocket. Charges are being filed by summons through the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Unauthorized use: Melody Vecchione of Lincoln Terrace told city police Tuesday Bill Lane, no address given, never returned her car after he borrowed it Monday afternoon. Washington police later discovered the vehicle was involved in a rollover accident in Collier Township.
Theft: Eric Keene of West Prospect Avenue told city police a GPS device and penknife were taken from his vehicle as it was parked near his property Monday evening.
Stolen vehicle: Felix Romano of Franklin Terrace told city police his vehicle was stolen while it was parked in the Alpine Bowling parking lot on Jefferson Avenue Monday morning.
