Police beat July 1
Burglary reported: John Cukryznski, 48, of 512 Short St., told police someone broke into his residence Wednesday and stole a gray and black fire safe.
Crash: James Matthew Sarasnick, 26, of Washington, and Billy Ray Cox, no age given, of 507 Wayne St., Washington, stopped in the 900 block of Hewitt Avenue about 10 p.m. Saturday to race their vehicles, according to police. During the race, Sarasnick lost control of his car. The vehicle hit two trees and rolled an before coming to rest on its roof, police said. Leah M. Poland, 25, a passenger in Sarasnick’s vehicle, sustained a head injury and was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital. Sarasnick was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Car crash: Zackary S. Blubaugh, 19, of Friedens, was traveling south on Golden Oaks Road Thursday about 8:30 a.m. when he went into the northbound lane, swiped a car being driven by Sandra A. Marling, 59, of New Freeport and then went off the west berm and hit a utility pole and a detached garage, police said. Blubaugh sustained an injury, the severity of which was not known to police, while Marling was not injured.
DUI crash: David Falkenstein, 22, of Warren, Ohio, was traveling west on Greensboro Road about 1 a.m. Sunday at a high speed when he hit a fire hydrant and guardrail, police said. Falkenstein’s vehicle then traveled across the road and hit another guardrail. Falkenstein was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
