Coal miner, enjoyed baking
Alice Jean Schneider Funk, 77, of Waynesburg, died at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
She was born Friday, November 22, 1935, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Charles Schneider and Mabel Stephens Schneider.
Mrs. Funk enjoyed cooking and baking, especially pies. She worked 21 years for G.C. Murphy Co. and Murphy Mart as a window trimmer, store trimmer and sign maker. She then worked 8 1/2 years for Nemacolin Buckeye Mine as a coal miner.
Surviving are her husband, William Irvin Funk, whom she married May 29, 1956; daughter Penny Candace Henderson of Macdale, W.Va.; son William Joseph Funk of Waynesburg; and granddaughter Shelby Lyn Henderson.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, with the Rev. William Parker officiating. Faith L. Gillogly, 85, of Holbrook, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in the home of her daughter, Linda Porter.

Donald J. Parker Sr.
Spent most of his career ?in law enforcement
Donald J. Parker Sr., 76, of Clarksville, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in his home, with his family by his side.
He was born February 8, 1937, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late William H. and Waltrude McGowan Parker.
Mr. Parker was a 1955 graduate of Carrick High School.
He spent most of his career in law enforcement and security, having worked with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mt. Lebanon Township Police Department, Peters Township Police Department, a Pennsylvania state constable for Jefferson Township and for the Pennsylvania regional assistant manager for Tri-Corps Security. Mr. Parker also spent 10 years traveling with his daughter, Julie, in support of anti-drug and alcohol campaigns in schools nationwide.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 91 Pittsburgh, Blue Knights and Patriots Motorcycle Organizations.
Surviving are five children, Julie Ann Williams of Wingo, Ky., Patricia Smith and husband Paul of Eighty Four, Constance Carlson of Brocton, N.Y., Susan Macurak of Bethel Park and Richard Croyle and wife Allysen of South Park; a daughter-in-law, Janice L. Parker of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren, Samuel Williams, Evan Williams, Stephanie Parker, Mark Parker, Rachel Parker, James Macurak, Matthew Macurak, Jonathan Macurak and Zachary Macurak; four siblings, William H. Parker III and wife Nan of Hartfield, Va., Jeanne C. Parker of Spring, Texas, Linda Johnson of Greensburg and Janice C. Underwood of Indiana; and his former wife, Janice Simmons Parker of Mayfield, Ky.
Deceased is a son, Donald J. Parker Jr.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, with the Rev. Rick Croyle officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. Charlotte Anne Underwood Smith
Homemaker, wife and mother loved animals
Charlotte Anne Underwood Smith, 85, of Rockport, Maine, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013, peacefully in her home, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born March 3, 1928, a daughter of the late Charles and Genevra Underwood of Winchester, Mass.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Stephen’s College in Missouri.
In 1949, she married Duncan Bruce Smith and they made their home in Pennsylvania. She was a homemaker, wife and mother who loved horses, dogs and cats. She could always be found with a dog in her lap or at her feet. She loved having family and friends visit her in Rockport or taking a trip to Pennsylvania to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on the farm that she loved.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Mayflower Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Tuesday Breakfast Club, Pigeon Cove Circle, Sandy Bay Yacht Club, Rockport Historical Society and Morris Township Historical Society.
Surviving are two sons, Duncan B. Smith II and wife Aileen and Doug Smith and wife Pegg, all of Prosperity; daughter Heather Chandler and husband Steven of New York; grandchildren Charles Smith and wife Pamela, Andrew Smith and wife Tiffany and Michael Smith, all of Prosperity, Duncan Bruce Smith III of Donora and Meghan and Christopher Chandler, both of New York; four great-grandchildren, Debra, Tyler, Dylan and Drew, all of Prosperity; and her dearest neighbors/friends, Dan Piering and Dossie Campbell.
Deceased is her husband, D. Bruce Smith.
In life, Mrs. Smith loved to entertain and welcomed all into her home, so in keeping with her wishes, an open house in Rockport and Prosperity with family and friends will be held at a later date. There will be no visiting hours and the burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930. Robert C. Todd Jr., 86, of Canonsburg, passed away Monday, July 1, 2013.
He was the beloved husband of the late Helen Wilson Todd; loving father of Thelma (Paul Alheim) Gardner and Robert (Jill) Todd III; grandfather of Bethany Gehring, Jason Gardner, Emily Todd and Benjamin Todd; great-grandfather of Michael and Andrew Gehring; and brother of Elizabeth Dietrich, the late Jeannette Lustick and Thelma Todd.
