Cody R. Adams was named to the dean’s list at Waynesburg University, where he is majoring in nursing. Adams is a member of the track team. He is a 2012 graduate of Avella High School, and his parents are Sherry Adams of Avella and the late Ray Adams.
Christian M. Brandstetter graduated magna cum laude from Bucknell University with a bachelor of arts degree in economics. Brandstetter is a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economics Honor Society. He is a 2009 graduate of Peters Township High School, and his prents are Brian and Lisa Brandstetter of McMurray.
Carson J. Fox was named to the dean’s list at Waynesburg University, where he is majoring in communication-sports broadcasting/information. He is a graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, and his parents are Kerry and Jackie Fox of North Strabane Township.
Zachary L. Giecek was awarded a walk-on basketball scholarship for the sixth man at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he is majoring in accounting. His parents are Terry L. Giecek and Joyce A. Reedy, both of Washington. Giecek is a 2012 graduate of Trinity High School.
Diana Jobes graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a master of arts in teaching-advanced teaching. She also was a Presidential Scholar. Jobes is a 1986 graduate of Gauley Bridge High School, W.Va., and is a math teacher at Fort Cherry Junior/Senior High School. Her parents are Fred and Carolyn Rogers of Gauley Bridge.
Levi James Levato, son of Shawn and Caterina Levato of Canonsburg, graduated magna cum laude from Grove City College with a bachelor’s degree in international business, with a minor in political science. He as a Presidential Scholar and a member of the ODK National College Leadership Honor Society, serving as vice president his senior year, Delta Mu Delta International Business Honorary and Pi Gamma Mu National Social Science Honorary. Levato was a finalist for Senior Man of the Year, one of six chosen from more than 300 male students. He also was a member of the men’s volleyball club; treasurer and executive leader of the orientation board; president of the International Business Club his junior and senior years; a Grove City College tour guide; homecoming king; and a member of the Rhode Island Missions trip team. Levato will intern for the Federal Reserve in Washington, D.C., in September.
Kristen Scopel was named to the dean’s list at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, where she is majoring in photography. Scopel is a 2011 graduate of Burgettstown High School and is employed by Newbourgh Photography in Weirton, W.Va. Her parents are Jay and Sandra Scopel of Burgettstown.
Savannah Rhea Sprowls graduated from Washington & Jefferson College, where she majored in international studies. She was a member of Pi Gamma Mu Social Science Honor Society, Alpha Mu Gamma Modern Languages Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society and Sigma Lota Rho International Studies Honor Society. She traveled to China four times to conduct sociopolitical and economic research and to study international relations and polical economy. She is employed by Lingnan University, Hong Kong, and is a visiting English tutor. Sprowls is a 2009 graduate of McGuffey High School, and her parents are Nick and Michelle Sprowls, both of Claysville.
Madeline Vargo, daughter of Elene Vargo of California, was named to the dean’s list at Macalester College, St. Paul, Minn. She is a graduate of California Area Senior High School.
Kayleigh Verno was named to the dean’s list at Washington & Jefferson College, where she is majoring in psychology. Verno received the college’s Scholar Award for her dedication and commitment to academic excellence, achievements outside the classroom and superior citizenship. She will continue to receive the award as long as she maintains at least a 3.8 grade-point average. She is a member of the Camerata Singers and is involved in theater. She is a 2010 graduate of Trinity High School and is employed by Strabane Trails Independent Living. Her parents are Chuck and Judy Verno of Washington.
