Police beat July 7
Vandalism: George Burgess of Ross Road, Amwell Township, told state police he found a large hole in his metal garage Wednesday morning.
Children hurt: Two children were slightly injured Wednesday when a vehicle driven by their mother was hit from behind on Morganza Road at Adams Avenue. Deanna Ann Franklin, 39, of Cuddy, told Canonsburg police her vehicle was hit by one driven by Cindy Scinico, 126 Smith St., Canonsburg. Franklin’s children, Alexis and Austin Franklin, no ages available, were taken to Canonsburg General Hospital.
Assault, harassment charges: John Conley, 54, of 301 Belmont Ave., was arrested Wednesday by Canonsburg police on charges of simple assault and harassment for allegedly assaulting Samantha Findling in his home. He was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in the Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
PFA violations: Thomas Doyle, 36, of Belle Vernon, was arrested Wednesday by state police on a protection-from-abuse order violation after he went to a home at 23 Hoon St., Carroll police said. He was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in the Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
Unlawful restraint charge: Drake Matthew Munger, 19, of 464 E. Main St., Apt. 8, Monongahela, was arraigned on multiple charges including unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, possession of an instrument used in a crime, possession of an offensive weapon, criminal coercion and tampering with evidence for an incident that occurred Friday night. According to court documents, Monongahela police responding to a call of men breaking into vehicles near Aquatorium Park behind Rail Road Street encountered Munger restraining two juveniles with a pocketknife. Munger admitted to police he cut the tires on one of the boy’s bicycles because, “he has a history of running away from cops and I didn’t want him running away.” Police found an Omega brand pocketknife and four Chinese throwing stars in Munger’s possession. Munger was arraigned by District Judge Mark Wilson and placed in the Washington County jail on a $5,000 bond.
DUI, underage charges: Cody Edward Rusler, 18, of McDonald, and his passenger, Taylor Jordan Jones, 20, of Canonsburg, each face charges stemming from a traffic stop about 2:25 a.m. Friday on Interstate 79 north at the Racetrack Road exit, North Strabane. State police said both were intoxicated. Rusler will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and underage drinking. Jones will be charged with underage drinking and public drunkenness. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Car stolen: A gray, four-door 2012 Dodge Caliber owned by Linda Pelligrini, 220 DiCio St., was taken without her permission Friday, North Strabane police said.
Possession: Marti Dean Brown, 24, no address given, was arraigned on multiple charges of possessing a controlled substance for an incident in which he reportedly sold marijuana to an undercover police officer in August 2011. According to court documents, Brown met the officer near the 800 block of Ewing Street and sold her 26.9 grams of marijuana at a price of $140. Brown was arraigned by District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in the Washington County jail on a $10,000 bond.
Fire ruled arson: Deputy Fire Marshal S.L. Jones of state police in Washington determined a small structure fire on Rocky Run Road in West Finley Township was caused by arson. According to the report, police determined the fire that took place inside of a large, unoccupied wooden barn structure owned by Consol Coal in Cecil Township was intentionally ignited using incendiary material. The blaze occurred May 29 and firefighters from West Finley Township Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the flames. Police estimated the fire caused $1,000 in damage.
