1. Canon-McMillan wrestling

Big Macs swept the PIAA Team Titles, giving them five of a possible six over the last three seasons. Three wrestlers won PIAA Individual Championships. Canon-Mac also set a WPIAL record by becoming the first Class AAA team to win four consecutive WPIAL Team Tournament titles.

2. Peters Township girls soccer

Indians outscored opponents 129-14 en route to their third consecutive PIAA Class AAA championship. Finished the year 24-1 after snagging their second WPIAL title in the past three years.

3. Canon-McMillan softball

And this may only be the beginning. Sure, a second consecutive WPIAL Class AAAA title was impressive. So was winning a first PIAA championship after beating Neshaminy in 12 innings. Four of the team’s five best players return.

4. Peters Township girls tennis

Indians won a second consecutive PIAA Class AAA title and were the best in the state for the fourth time since 2006, finishing the year at 22-1. Abby Cummings and Sara Komer also won the state doubles title.

5. Washington boys track and field

Two years ago, the Prexies clinched the WPIAL Team Title before the 300 hurdles. Two more events were required this spring, but Wash High, dominant in the sprints, hurdles and jumps, still cruised past Freedom, Riverside and South Park.

6. Washington football

Wash High is back. In addition to winning a conference title, their first since 2001, the Prexies had the WPIAL’s top runner in Shai McKenzie, who will return after rushing for 2,689 yards and 41 touchdowns.

7. Peters Township girls lacrosse

The Indians are clearly the class of the WPIAL, as evidenced by the fact that they won their second consecutive WPIAL title and fifth overall. But Peters Township also became the first WPIAL team to reach the PIAA Division I semifinals.

8. Canon-McMillan boys soccer

Maybe the number 13 isn’t bad luck after all. Seeded 13th after losing to Peters Township and Upper St. Clair twice during the regular season, the Big Macs surprised pretty much everyone by winning won their first WPIAL title and reaching the PIAA Class AAA quarterfinals.

9. South Fayette girls swimming and diving

Lions won their first section title in 15 years and took home WPIAL gold for the first time, as Morgan Fink was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke. They celebrated with a dive into the water at Pitt’s Trees Pool.

10. Burgettstown golf

After finishing second in 2010 and 2011, the Blue Devils edged Sewickley Academy, 411-415, to win the WPIAL Division II title. Junior Owen Miller led the Class AA boys field with a 2-over par round of 74.
