Brian Gorman now holds the title of Washington County deputy public defender.

Gorman was named by Public Defender Glenn Alterio to replace Thomas Cooke III, who had worked for the county for nearly 13 years before retiring in May. He will receive a salary of $72,100 per year, up $8,644 from Cooke’s salary.

Assistant Public Defenders Preston Pizzi, who handled preliminary and mental health hearings, and Leslie Ridge, trial attorney, departed the office the last week of June. Pizzi retired and Ridge is now a prosecutor in the office of District Attorney Gene Vittone.

Alterio said interviews to fill the two positions are pending.
