McMURRAY – A 92-year-old Mt. Lebanon woman told police she was not injured when her car traveled through pine trees and down an embankment before landing upright in Chartiers Creek near Valley Brook Country Club Wednesday morning.

Peters Township police Capt. Michael Yanchak said Mary David of Bower Hill Road, who was planning to attend an event at the country club, said she believed she had put her car in park in the club parking lot at 10:10 a.m. Somehow her foot hit the gas pedal, and her car went over the berm, through the pine trees and nosedived in the creek, which, Yanchak said, was higher than normal because of the recent heavy rains.

David was alone in the car and was wearing a seatbelt that, Yanchak said, was still on when emergency responders arrived.

Firefighters from Peters Township Fire Department extricated David.

As a precaution, David was taken to St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon, to be checked. The hospital does not release information on patients’ conditions.
