Samuelson powers Things to win

First baseman Mark Samuelson blasted a three-run home run to highlight a four-run sixth inning, as the Washington Wild Things cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Normal CornBelters in Frontier League action Monday night at Consol Energy Park.

Samuelson finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and scored a pair of runs. Shortstop A.J. Nunziato had three hits, including a solo homer in the sixth.

Washington improved to 29-33 by winning the second game of the series, which concludes with a 7:05 p.m. game tonight.

Shawn Sanford pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits to pick up his third consecutive win. Sanford struck out four and walked two.

Left fielder Quincy Latimore was 2-for-4 with a double.

Normal, which entered the game a half-game ahead of Schaumburg for second place in the West Division, fell to 34-28.
