Chau was stopped April 7 when police said he made a turn onto Route 88 north in Cumberland Township without signaling. According to police, there was an open beer bottle in plain sight between the feet of a passenger in the backseat of Chau’s vehicle. Chau, and passengers Peter Bounpheng and Theron T. Tohtsoni were asked to exit the vehicle after Chau and Bounpheng both asked the officer “What bottle?” While retrieving it, the officer said he saw a pill marked M361 on the floor. It was later determined to be Hydrocodone. Chau agreed to a search of his vehicle at which time police said a loaded Glock pistol was retrieved. Chau did not have a permit to carry it in the Commonwealth or his home state of Louisiana. A preliminary hearing date will be scheduled before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson.
