Washington Hospital School of Nursing student Jamie Granato has received the 2013 Florence Ellison Lazzaro Scholarship. Lazzaro was a 1949 graduate of Charleroi High School, a 1953 graduate of Washington Hospital School of Nursing and a 1971 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science degree. She was a nurse and night supervisor at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital for many years. She developed and taught the medical assistant program at Mon Valley Technology Center for 22 years. The $1,000 award is granted annually to qualified students, with preference given to Charleroi or Bethlehem-Center High School graduates. The scholarship was created with donations from family and friends after Lazzaro died in 2008. With Granato is Lazzaro’s husband, Dr. Anthony Lazzaro.
