Claysville man accused of secretly taping teen
A Claysville man was arrested Tuesday by North Strabane Township police on charges he secretly videotaped his girlfriend’s 18-year-old daughter in the bathroom of the teen’s home in the Angel II Estates.
Dennis Ray White, 44, of 212 Sprowls Road, allegedly hid a video camera in the laundry hamper inside the bathroom.
The girlfriend discovered the camera earlier this month after her daughter left the bathroom when she heard an electronic noise coming from the hamper.
White, who was present when the teen’s mother made the report to police, immediately admitted without questioning that he “had a mental problem” and “didn’t know why he would do something so stupid.” He told police he purchased the camera for $20 with the sole purpose of secretly recording his girlfriend’s daughter.
Township police Detective John Wybranowski said that at least four events were recorded. Wybranowski said that White can also be seen in the video placing the camera and adjusting it.
“He would place the camera and then remove it when she came out of the bathroom,” Wybranowski said, adding that White was familiar with the teen’s routine. “But this time he was unable to get back to remove it.”
A woman can be seen before and after a shower. Conversations can also be heard between people in the house.
Wybranowski said it appears the taping had not been happening over a long period of time.
White was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller on charges of wiretapping and invasion of privacy. He was released on a conditional bond with order to have no contact with the teen or her mother and undergo a mental health evaluation. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 3 before Weller.
