Joyce Ellis deserves praise

Joyce Ellis deserves praise

  • September 7, 2013

I enjoyed reading, learning and hearing about all the many good things that Joyce Ellis has done for the young people of Washington and the entire community.

I met her several years ago when my youngest daughter was in her dance class. Then, as now, she taught the young people not only how to dance, but responsibility and pride and was always there for them.

Then, a few years ago, I ran into her again when she was asking anyone and everyone for help in establishing her dream for the rundown LeMoyne Community Center. People were very resistant, telling her that, financially, it could never be. But, with her determination, hard work and tears, and God’s help, her dream came true.

Her summer camp for poor children is indeed a life-saver for these young people. Some would go hungry, or just be stuck inside a hot apartment or house all summer. But Ellis brings them the joys of summertime fun.

I wish there were more people like her.
