Coyotes kill baby alpacas on Westmoreland farm
APOLLO (AP) – The Pennsylvania Game Commission says coyotes have killed two baby alpacas on a western Pennsylvania farm, and are responsible for killing six peacocks at another nearby farm.
The alpacas were killed at the Humming Valley Alpaca Farm in Washington Township, Westmoreland County. The peacocks died at another nearby farm and now neighbors say they’re worried about their animals, too.
Gary Wehrle owns a nearby farm and his 10-year-old son, Garrison, has raised several goats and lambs. Gary Wehrle tells KDKA-TV the coyotes are “attacking pretty much anything they can get their hands on. So just beware.”
The alpacas killed were worth $20,000 each, and were among nearly 30 living on the farm about 30 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
