Avoid pestering telemarketers
I’ve been pestered since the first of the year by telemarketers who want to lower my credit card interest and payments. At first, calls came about once every two weeks.
The calls end with the warning that “this is your final notice,” but they keep coming. They’re now up to two a week, even though we’re registered with the Federal Trade Commission’s national do-not-call registry.
A telephone and an Internet connection is all you need for a con artist to make thousands of annoying calls a minute, according to the FTC.
Hang up immediately when you get one of these calls, advises the Connecticut Better Business Bureau. Do not press any numeral to get off the call list, they say. By pressing a number, you are confirming that someone is responding to the calls and you will get more.
Unfortunately, I found the advice from the Better Business Bureau too late. I pressed a number to get off the list and got broadsided.
