CANONSBURG

Pole hit: William Kal, 43, of 549 McCombs Road, Venetia, escaped injury Wednesday morning when his vehicle slid into a utility pole at the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Craighead Street, shearing it off, Canonsburg police said. Kal told police he swerved to avoid a vehicle in front of him that stopped abruptly.


CANTON

Burglary arrest: Frank Murphy Jr., 40, of Washington, was arrested Wednesday by state police on charges of burglary and attempted burglary. He is accused of going to the home of Sharyn Throckmorton, 306 Festival Road, Canton, and knocking at her door. When she didn’t answer, he returned with a credit card and tried to use it to open the door to her home. Murphy was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.


CARROLL

Receiving, theft charges: Joseph C. Kevech, 39, of 121 Monroe St., Monongahela, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Mark Wilson on charges of receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, theft and false reports to police. Carroll police said he reportedly stole copper wire and tubing from a home at 11 Crackerjack Road on May 29 and then sold the items at a scrap yard. He also reportedly lied to police about where he got the copper, claiming he removed it from his mother’s house. Kevech was placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.


CHARTIERS

House burglarized: David Oliver, 824 Governors Circle, told Chartiers police Wednesday that a burglar climbed through a window at his home and stole a ceramic cookie jar and plastic beer bottle. The two items contained about $170. Also stolen was a Verizon device used to create a Wi-Fi signal.


SOUTH STRABANE

Retail theft arrest: Arthur R. Brewington, 49, who police said is homeless, was arrested Wednesday by South Strabane police for allegedly stealing a dome tent from Walmart, Trinity Point. He was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.


WASHINGTON

Man assaulted: Robert Biddings, 63, of 235 W. Chestnut St., told Washington police that he was assaulted by his girlfriend’s son after he and his girlfriend had a domestic dispute at his home Wednesday. Biddings, who was punched in the mouth, was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment. Charges are pending against his attacker.
