For Justin Seaman, there’s nothing scarier than a 1980s-based horror flick.

“There just something really scary about '80s monsters,” Seaman, of Claysville, said.

Seaman is hoping his audience will agree. Since October, Seamen and Maggi Mizell, of Wheeling, W.Va., have been busy filming their independent feature-length horror film, “The Barn”, in West Alexander. Seaman said the film, which is set in the late 1980s on Halloween, depicts a “crazy night.”

“They are on their way to a rock concert, and just happen to stop where a legend (known as The Barn) took place,” he said. “All hell breaks loose from there.”

Seaman declined to provide a more concrete synopsis of the film, not wanting to give too much away. The idea for the film came to Seaman in 1993. It has since been adapted.

“Always in the back of my mind, I wanted to get this film made,” the 28-year-old, said. “A year-and-a-half ago, I decided to do it. When Maggi partnered with me, that’s when things got moving.”

Seaman has been making movies since he was 5 years old, using the family camcorder and with the help from his mother. In 2009, he graduated from Robert Morris University with a degree in television film production.

“It has always been a part of my life,” he said.

Over the last six years, Seaman has filmed three feature-length films. He currently runs Nevermore Productions Films with his high school friends, and Nevermore Production Studio, a freelance videography company.

The recent cold weather stopped filming on “The Barn”, but Seaman said he plans to release the film in October. Seaman is hoping for a distribution deal and success at film festivals in New York and Los Angeles.

Although he’s focused on editing the film and securing additional funding, Seaman is already thinking of his next production.

“I’m thinking a comedy,” he said.
