Five people were injured in a three-car crash on Route 40 in West Pike Run Township late Thursday night that closed the road for more than two hours.

Richeyville fire Chief Dave Pohill said emergency crews responded to a head-on collision in the 500 block of Route 40 near Spring Road about 11:14 p.m. Pohill did not know how the third car became involved in the accident.

The five people involved had injuries that ranged from minor to moderate, Pohill said. One person was taken to Mon Valley Hospital, one person was transported to Uniontown Hospital and three people were taken a Pittsburgh area hospital, Pohill said.

Route 40 was closed until about 1:30 a.m. Friday while crews removed the wreckage.

State police in Belle Vernon are investigating the crash but did not release details.
