FOX CHAPEL, Pa. (AP) — State police have been searching for the driver of a pickup who left the scene after rear-ending another vehicle that stopped in the path of a wrong-way driver on Route 28 near Pittsburgh.

State police say 81-year-old Francis Esposito, of Pittsburgh, caused the chain of events when he accidentally drove north in the southbound lanes after entering the highway using the off-ramp from Fox Chapel Road on Saturday about 5:30 p.m.

Police say 51-year-old Jeffrey Torin, of Indiana Township, alertly stopped his vehicle to prevent a crash and to stop Esposito from continuing to drive in the wrong direction.

That’s when police say Torin’s vehicle was rear-ended by a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the ruck didn’t stop, but exited the highway using the same ramp as Esposito, before abandoning the truck and running away.
