Weather forces numerous postponements

  • January 6, 2014

Inclement weather forced the postponement of 14 high school basketball games and three wrestling matches Monday night.

Sub-zero temperatures today are expected to wipe out the 18 events scheduled for tonight.

Some schools quickly moved to reschedule competitions, while others are still searching for acceptable dates.

Washington’s girls basketball team rescheduled its game against South Side Beaver in Section 5-AA to Wednesday at the Prexies’ gymnasium. Tipoff is at 6:30 p.m.

The key Section 4-AA boys basketball game between Wash High and Seton-La Salle, originally set for tonight, was rescheduled for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Seton-La Salle.

Bentworth’s home wrestling match against Mapletown in Section 2-A was moved to Monday at 7 p.m. To make room, Mapletown canceled a match against Charleroi for that night.

South Fayette moved its home girls basketball game against Moon to Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. and pushed the boys home game against McGuffey, originally set for tonight in Section 5-AAA, to Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

A wrestling match at Carlynton and a swimming meet against Canon-McMillan will be rescheduled at a later date.

Fort Cherry picked Jan. 14 as the date to make up for last night’s home girls basketball game against Steel Valley and pushed a wrestling match against Burgettstown back to Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Tonight’s home basketball game against Burgettstown is now Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday’s Section 4-A dual meet between Canon-McMillan and Chartiers Valley has been moved to CV’s middle school for a 7:30 p.m. start.

The Observer-Reporter will post all submitted makeup dates in its daily On Schedule, which can be found in the Scoreboard section.

Athletic directors are asked to report rescheduled events to the sports department as soon as possible.
