Robert Morris loses late lead to CCSU
MOON TOWNSHIP — Matt Mobley made the game-winning free throws with 2 seconds left, then forced a turnover to secure a 74-73 upset victory for Central Connecticut State over Robert Morris on Saturday.
Robert Morris, which was previously undefeated in the Northeast Conference, held a commanding 63-45 lead with 7:38 remaining. They were leading 71-65 with 1:19 left before Malcolm McMillan hit a jumper to pull the Blue Devils within 71-67. Khalen Cumberlander, who had 18 points, followed with a 3-pointer and McMillan added a layup just before Mobley hit the game-winning free throws.
McMillan scored 14 points. Mobley and Faronte Drakeford each added 12 points for CCSU (6-15, 2-6). The Blue Devils made 6 of 10 3-point shots in the second half, and shot 45 percent from beyond the arc.
Lucky Jones, who now has 1,015 career points at Robert Morris (12-11, 7-1), led the Colonials with 22 points.
La Salle 71, Duqesne 63: Steve Zack scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as La Salle topped Duquesne 71-63 on Saturday, snapping a three-game losing streak.
The Explorers (12-9, 4-3 Atlantic 10) led by just 2 at halftime but extended their lead to 51-36 on a jumper by Zack with 9:53 to play.
Tyreek Duren added 13 points for La Salle while Jerrell Wright and Tyrone Garland both had 11 and Sam Mills had 10. The Explorers shot just 38.1 percent from the field but grabbed 47 rebounds.
Ovie Soko led Duquesne (10-10, 2-5) with 23 points and Tra’Vaughn White had 13, but the Dukes shot just 35.9 percent from the field. Other than Soko and White, the rest of the team made only 9 of 36 field goals.
