PITTSBURGH (AP) – Police in Western Pennsylvania are investigating the death of a 12-year-old girl accidentally run over by a sport utility vehicle.

Pittsburgh police said the vehicle had stopped at a house in Stanton Heights Sunday night to drop off an occupant after a night at the movies.

Police said the girl got out to take some pictures but the vehicle was apparently out of gear and rolled over her as the driver got out.

Authorities said the SUV dragged the girl about 50 feet before striking a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was taken into custody to determine whether alcohol was involved, but officials said no charges were immediately filed.
