Paradise Confectionery fondly recalled

  • March 11, 2014

This is a follow-up letter to the identification in Monday’s Observer-Reporter of the Mystery Photo of the Paradise Confectionery on West Chestnut Street in Washington.

I am sure I am not alone when I say I remember Jake Paradise fondly. I remember my dad taking me to the store in the 1950s. What a treat that was. But little did I know then that years later, while serving in Vietnam, I would receive a package from Jake containing a box full of his chocolate candy. Among all the wonderful letters, packages and love I received from home during that time, I have never forgotten Paradise’s gift of encouragement.

Yes, the specialty of the house might have been “frozen worlds,” but the specialty of Jake Paradise was his generous love.
