Baseball: B-C takes wild win from Bentworth

Lane Ziker scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Beth-Center a 6-5 victory over Bentworth in a Section 2-AA game.


Beth-Center (2-5, 3-7) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a double by Seth Hvizda and a single by Matt Riggle. In the top of the eighth, winning pitcher Dexter Keys threw Jake Rothka out at the plate on a suicide squeeze attempt.


Rothka, Matt Vickless and Kirk Stechly each had a double for the Bearcats (2-6, 7-7).


• Brad Nicholls hit a two-run single in a three-run fifth to lift Waynesburg to a 3-1 victory over Keystone Oaks in a Section 3-AA game.


Aaron Hill struck out six and walked two for the Raiders (3-2, 5-5).


Keystone Oaks fell to 4-4, including 2-2 in the section.


• Jake Columbus and Gavin Anderson each knocked in four runs to power California to a 17-2 six-inning win over West Greene in a Section 1-A game.


Columbus went 2-for-3 and scored twice for the Trojans (6-0, 12-0). Louden Conte went 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI and Josh Luke doubled.


Dillon Shields and Kolten Richter had the hits for West Greene (1-5, 3-6).


• Sam Hockenberry scored on a throwing error by Zach Nobozny in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Burgettstown a wild 10-9 win over Charleroi in a Section 2-AA game.


Cole Larocka went 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Blue Devils (3-4, 4-5) and Brandon Sells went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI.


Gunnar Riley cleared the bases with a single in the top of the seventh to tie the game, 9-9, for Charleroi (4-4, 5-6).


• Mapletown stopped Hundred 19-1 in a five-inning non-section game. Winning pitcher Keith Popernack homered and struck out 10. Ben Boone had two doubles and Patrick Clites, Jon Dotts, Jake Lawson, Garett Kiger and Matt Hein each had a double. Colby Kincell tripled.
