Baseball: Babirad homers three times to help Fort Cherry win

Alex Babirad hit three home runs and drove in seven runs to propel Fort Cherry to its second straight win, 16-7 over Burgettstown in a Section 2-AA game.

Babirad hit a grand slam in the second, a two-run blast in the third and a solo shot in the fifth for the Rangers (2-6, 2-7). Ricky Jones had two doubles a single and drove in three runs. Shane Turkilu and Chris Batove each had a double.

Mike Smith had a double and two RBI for Burgettstown (3-6, 4-7). Dylan Dhans and Alex Meyers each had a double.

• Aaron Previsky had a triple and three RBI to help California down Mapletown 15-5 in a six-inning Section 1-A game.

Winning pitcher Chris Swartz had a double for Cal (7-0, 13-0). Garritt Woodburn doubled.

Mapletown fell to 2-8, including 0-6 in the section.

• Dalton Eddy did not allow a hit in five innings and struck out 11 as West Greene defeated Hundred 16-0 in a non-section game.

Ben Carlisle had two doubles and three RBI for West Greene (4-6). Doug Berdin tripled and Dillon Shileds, Dalton Wildman and Trevin Bedilion each had a double.

• Kurt Adkins and Jordan Mooney had two doubles each as Washington rebounded from a loss Tuesday night to Brownsville with a 20-1 four-inning win over Beth-Center.

Chris Gouin also doubled, while Kevin Patterson scattered four hits over four innings to get the win for the Prexies (7-2, 9-4).

Lane Ziker took the loss for Beth-Center (2-6, 3-9).
