Woman found dead after fire in Western Pa. home
SMOCK (AP) – Fire investigators are trying to find out what started a fast-moving blaze that killed a woman in her Western Pennsylvania home.
Authorities in Fayette County said 46-year-old Sheila Porter was pronounced dead after the Franklin Township blaze, which was reported shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday.
Chief Tim Kelly of Smock Volunteer Fire Company said problems with hydrants in the area hampered efforts to battle the flames.
He said Porter’s body was found in the kitchen at the back of the home, and it appears the victim was trying to escape.
Her 22-year-old son was able to get out by jumping from his second-floor bedroom to the roof of a porch.
Officials estimated damage from the blaze at about $150,000 and said the fire didn’t appear to be suspicious in origin.
