Steelers take Clemson WR in 4th round
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger finally has a big red zone target at his disposal.
The Steelers took 6-foot-4 Martavis Bryant out of Clemson with their pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft Saturday afternoon. Bryant caught 42 passes for 828 yards and seven touchdowns for the Tigers last fall while playing alongside star Sammy Watkins.
Pittsburgh was looking for size at wide receiver following the offseason departure of Jerricho Cotchery. Wide receivers coach Richard Mann says he the team was impressed by Bryant’s length and his ability to track the football.
The Steelers grabbed Bryant one round after taking undersized running back/wide receiver/kick returner Dri Archer. Mann says he sees the 5-8 Archer spending time at wide out in certain packages.
