There won’t be fireworks, but Jo-Ann Fabric wants to get cracking at Washington Crown Center in July.

Joy Weidel, group marketing director for Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust, owner and operator of the mall, confirmed that a July 25 grand opening is planned.

A smallish interior sign stating “New store opens 7/25/2014” is posted on a wall near where the Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts store will be located. It is inside the main entrance to the North Franklin Township facility.

Another sign, perhaps 20 feet away, says “Now hiring” without listing specific positions.

Candidates can apply at by entering the identification number 24486. Interviews will be scheduled at PA Career Link, 90 W. Chestnut St., Suite 150LL, Washington, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 29 and 30. Walk-ins will be scheduled for interviews when they arrive.

Jo-Ann Fabric is moving to Crown Center from Washington Mall. It will cease operations at the South Strabane Township site at about the time the new store will open three miles away.

Weidel said Jo-Ann initially will keep mall hours at Crown Center – 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday – but may change them afterward. Some anchor stores have slightly different hours.

This Jo-Ann will occupy 15,900 square feet but will not be one of the company’s superstores. Robinson Town Centre has one of those stores, which typically have 36,000 square feet.

Jo-Ann will be an integral part of the continuing, and fast-paced, makeover of Crown Center. In recent months, Philadelphia-based Preit has confirmed or announced the future arrival of three retail outlets: Jo-Ann, Ross Dress for Less and Ulta Beauty. Ross and Ulta are expected to debut this fall.

Preit owns and operates 37 enclosed malls in 12 states. Uniontown Mall and Beaver Valley Mall are Preit properties.

New outlet store

Tanger Outlets apparently will be getting a popular new store this summer.

Express Factory Outlet said on its website,, that will open a store at 2200 Tanger Blvd. in South Strabane Township.

Tanger general manager Jodi Dague could not be reached for comment.
