Police beat May 16
Log splitter stolen: Ralph Tennant of Waynesburg told state police Wednesday that a red, 25-ton Spee Co. log splitter was stolen from property on Bailey Road, Amwell. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 724-223-5200.
Two injured: Howard W. Miller Jr., 40, of Washington, and his passenger, Jill Whiteman, 40, also of Washington, were injured Saturday when their southbound car went off Reese Road near Ashmore Road, Buffalo, hit a mailbox and trees before going over a steep hill. Both were taken to Washington Hospital for treatment. Miller will be cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
Church window damaged: Vandals broke a window at the rear of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1109 Main St., Burgettstown. The damage was reported to McDonald police Monday.
Six charged: Henna Ouida Geisler, 22, of Allison Park; Mikaela Phillips, 20 of Bedford; and Brittni Alicia Jones, 23, Chelsea Ann Michelessi, 23, Mikaela Michelessi, 19, and Jamie Kaylyn Mueller, 19, all of Pittsburgh, were charged Thursday by California police with harassment and disorderly conduct stemming from a May 6 disturbance at their apartment at 607 High St., California. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Joshua Kanalis.
Fence stolen: A 200-foot section of chain link fence was reported stolen Wednesday from property owned by Canon-McMillan School District, 21 Van Eman St., Canonsburg police said.
Attempted theft: Chartiers police plan to file charges against three men suspected of trying to steal scrap metal Wednesday from Dave Schussler, Ryburn Road. The scrap metal was recovered. Police impounded a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck at the site. Two of the men were questioned while one fled.
DUI charge: Ryan Douglas Penvose, 29, of 2568 Beverly Drive, Washington, was charged Tuesday by East Washington police with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on a sidewalk and a stop sign violation after he allegedly drove on the sidewalk in the 100 block of South Wade Avenue as the officer attempted to pull him over May 3. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Window broken: Jacob M. Wylie, 223 E. Pike St., Houston, told state police Tuesday that a window on his home was broken.
Man arraigned: Richard Arbuckle, 27, of 8655 Noblestown Road, McDonald, was arraigned Thursday before Senior District Judge on charges including resisting arrest and institutional vandalism filed by Mt. Pleasant police stemming from a May 8 incident. He was placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
Escapes injury: Michael J. McClain, 38, of Monessen, escaped injury Wednesday morning when his vehicle went off Route 519 across from the North Strabane Township Building, struck a guard rail and flipped over, township police said.
Theft charge: Theresa Young, 39, of 201 Vine St., Canonsburg, was charged Tuesday with theft by North Strabane police for allegedly stealing four rings from Marie Garlitz while working for a cleaning service working at the victim’s Carriage Way home. The rings were sold at a Bethel Park resale shop. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
DUI, paraphernalia charge: Sarah Marie Scopel, 24, of 134 Roupe Road, Washington, was charged Tuesday by North Strabane police after she was found to be intoxicated and in possession of paraphernalia during a April 13 traffic stop on Route 19. Police said her blood-alcohol content was almost 2 1/2 times the 0.08 limit presumed for intoxication. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
DUI charge: Chester W. Bednar, 75, of 359 Green Valley Road, Washington, was charged Wednesday by North Strabane police with DUI and careless driving stemming from an April 19 incident. Police were called for an erratic driver on Thomas-Eighty Four Road and Long Drive who almost hit an oncoming vehicle. Another driver stopped Bednar until police arrived when he tried to turn around in a driveway. His BAC was almost three times the 0.08 limit presumed for intoxication. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.
Man arraigned: Jonathan Casteel, 26, of Uniontown, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of retail theft, leaving the scene of an accident, and not having insurance stemming from a Feb. 26 incident at Walmart, Trinity Point. South Strabane police said Casteel stole items from the store and then struck a vehicle when fleeing the scene. He was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Theft arrest: Megan Lynn Liposchak, 23, whose last known address was Washington, was arrested Wednesday, by South Strabane police on charges of retail theft by under-ringing, retail theft and possession of paraphernalia. She is accused of putting clothing in her purse and then leaving with the items when she finished her shift at Gabriel’s, Northgate Plaza, on May 9. She also is accused of failing to charge a friend for $315 in purchases on May 11 and then taking $25 for the items, police said. She was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
Marijuana charge: Tanner Reed Downey, 22, of Waynesburg, will be charged by state police with possession of marijuana stemming from a traffic stop Tuesday on Interstate 70, South Strabane.
