TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – Stewart Ijames’ two-run homer capped a seven-run fifth inning Tuesday night and the Wild Things went on to defeat the Traverse City Beach Bums 15-8 at Wuerfel Park.
The win was the 11th in the last 13 games for the Wild Things.
C.J. Beatty was 2-for-3 with five RBI, and Ijames drove in three runs, to lead the Wild Things’ offense, which generated 15 runs on only 11 hits. Traverse City pitchers issued 10 walks and hit a batter.
Washington led 5-3 before breaking open the game with the big fifth inning.
Jim Vahalik hit a two-run double and Beatty cleared the bases with a three-run double to make the score 10-3. Ijames followed with his home run.
Traverse City pulled to within 12-6 in the seventh, but Daniel Poma hit a two-run double in the eighth and Beatty added a sacrifice fly to push the lead back to nine runs.
William Beckwith drove in two runs for Washington. Winning pitcher Tim Flight (2-0) threw five innings.
Former Washington third baseman Jovan Rosa had a two-run double in the first inning for Traverse City.
