Man convicted of two murders at Pa. housing complex
PITTSBURGH (AP) – After two mistrials, a man has been convicted of first-degree murder in a double homicide in a Western Pennsylvania housing complex two years ago.
Twenty-two-year-old Richard Krista faces a mandatory term of life without parole following Thursday’s convictions in Allegheny County Court.
Krista was charged in the shootings deaths of 21-year-old Cory Ruder and 19-year-old Joseph Sherrill at the Mon View Heights complex in West Mifflin in May 2012.
Jurors reached their verdict after about seven hours of deliberation. Panels in two earlier trials were unable to reach agreement.
Defense attorney James Wymard said an appeal was likely on several issues, including a juror’s dismissal for falling asleep.
Krista told distraught relatives before he was led away in shackles “I’ll be back on appeal. Don’t worry about nothing. I’m cool.”
