AVON, Ohio – Anderson Hildalgo’s two-out double scored Ryan Hutchinson with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Lake Erie Crushers defeated the Wild Things 3-2 Wednesday night in a Frontier League game.
Lake Erie took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Vincent Mejia.
The Wild Things, who lead the Frontier League’s East Division, loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh inning but pushed across only one run. Jim Vahalik reached on an error, Danny Poma singled and Garrett Rau walked. C.J. Beatty then hit a sacrifice fly that scored Vahalik and tied the game at 2-2. Poma, however, was thrown out trying to advance to third base on the play, and a strikeout ended the threat.
Hutchison delivered a pinch-hit double with one out in the 10th against Pat Butler (1-2), the fourth Washington pitcher. A groundout moved Hutchinson to third base, and after Craig Hertler was walked Hildago hit his game-winning double.
Trevor Longfellow (1-1), the seventh pitcher used by Lake Erie, pitched the 10th and got the win.
Washington took a 1-0 lead in the third, when Vahalik singled and scored on a two-out single by Stewart Ijames.
It was the 14th one-run game played by the Wild Things in their last 18 games.
The teams play the finale of the three-game series tonight.
