STEVENS (AP) – Police in central Pennsylvania say a man shot himself to death in front of police on a road in a rural residential area near his home.

Northern Regional Police said the man fired a shotgun into his chest Friday night after being ordered out of his vehicle.

Chief David Steffen tells Lancaster Newspapers a relative also witnessed the shooting. No charges are expected.

Police and the coroner aren’t releasing the man’s name.

An officer who tried to resuscitate the man was hospitalized to be checked out, but he wasn’t hurt or assaulted.
