Man charged with abusing 3-year-old
The boyfriend of a Fallowfield Township woman arrested last week for allegedly abusing her 3-year-old son also was charged in the case by state police.
Christopher Joseph Raible, 30, of Elizabeth, was taken into custody Friday on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and endangering the welfare of children. His girlfriend, Shyann Marie Sanpietro, 24, of 930 Fourth St., was arrested July 28 on identical charges.
Police were contacted July 3 when the boy was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital. The boy’s grandmother told Trooper James Petrosky, who filed the charges against the couple, that her daughter called her and told her to get the boy because he was not listening.
The boy reportedly was covered with bruises and had a burn mark on his stomach and another on his leg. Police said the 3-year-old told Petrosky his “mom and dad” hit him and that he also was hit with a belt and given cold baths.
The 3-year-old was taken to Children’s Hospital of UPMC in Pittsburgh for continued treatment. He also told a doctor at the hospital’s Child Advocacy Center his “mom and dad” were the ones who hit him, police said.
Raible, who was living on Fourth Street at the time, reportedly told police the boy falls down a lot. He also told Petrosky he is always at work and did not know how the boy received the bruises.
Raible was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. Sanpietro remains in jail on $200,000 bond. Both are scheduled for a preliminary hearing Thursday before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
