Another walk-off loss for Wild Things

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Chris Sweeney hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Evansville Otters a 5-4 victory over the Wild Things in the opening game of their key Frontier League series Friday night at Bosse Field.


Washington began the day tied for first place in the East Division with Southern Illinois. Evansville’s win moved the Otters into a tie with Washington. Southern Illinois played Friday night at River City.


Sweeney’s homer came on the fourth pitch of the inning from reliever Al Yevoli (2-4).


The Wild Things were unable protect a 4-3 lead, giving up the tying run in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Chris Elder.


Washington tied the score at 1-1 in the third inning on doubles by Scott Kalmar and Garrett Rau, and 2-2 in the fourth on Kalamar’s sacrifice fly. The Wild Things then forged the 4-3 lead in the sixth when Jim Vahalik hit a two-run homer.
