Police beat Aug. 22
Burglary: Jason Matthew Midler of 1584 Avella Road, Avella, was charged by state police with burglary, criminal trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of drugs, receiving stolen property and driving a vehicle without inspection following an incident at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to an affidavit filed in the office of District Judge James Ellis. Midler is accused of entering a shed at the rear of 217 Cross Creek Road and stealing an antique metal sewing machine he sold for scrap, police said. The sewing machine was owned by Charles Lonick. Police discovered several hypodermic needles and empty bags of suspected heroin in Midler’s truck. Midler was arraigned before Ellis and was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
Theft charge: Christopher Bradley, 38, of 428 Duquesne Ave., Canonsburg, was charged Monday with theft by Canonsburg police. He is accused of stealing drums, microphones and a sound mixing box from his stepfather July 19. The items, valued at $509, were sold at a pawn shop. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
DUI charges: William R. Garrett, 45, of 128 Charles St., Canton, was charged Tuesday by state police with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an all-terrain vehicle on the road and traffic violations stemming from an Aug. 9 incident on Griffith Avenue, Canton. State police said his blood-alcohol level was almost double the 0.08 limit presumed for intoxication when he drove an ATV on the road. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
Assault charges: Joseph A. Luisi, 19, of 180 Marshall Ave., Meadow Lands, was charged Monday by Chartiers police with aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment for allegedly punching Ryan Duritza on the side of face during an Aug. 2 altercation at 112 Wide St. Duritza suffered two broken vertebrae in his neck. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark. Police also were called to the home early Thursday for a reported underage drinking party. Five people will be cited with underage drinking, police said.
Bike stolen: Richard Wallace of Hickory told Chartiers police Tuesday his bicycle was stolen from 980 Western Ave.
Theft arrest: Alexander Joseph Nixon, 20, of 210 Pleasant Grove Road, Prosperity, was arraigned Thursday on charges of theft, theft by deception, receiving stolen property and conspiracy for allegedly stealing a gun and laptop computer from 71 Buckeye Road, East Finley, and two X-Box 360 game controllers from 142 Raspberry Road, East Finley, earlier this month. The items were then sold to a sporting goods store and pawn shops. Nixon was arraigned before District Judge Ethan Ward and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
Drug charges: Rontae James Bey, 19, of 826 Memory Lane, Pittsburgh, and Thomas Edward Means Jr., 22, of 817 Cherokee St., Pittsburgh, face drug charges after they were found in a room at Days Inn, 1370 W. Chestnut St., Washington, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to an affidavit filed in the office of District Judge James Ellis. State police found 130 packets of suspected heroin, along with a small amount of marijuana, inside a hooded sweatshirt in the room. Bey was charged with possession with the intent to deliver, conspiracy, possession of heroin and possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. Means was charged with conspiracy, possession with the intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a small amount of marijuana. Means was placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
Mother assaulted: David Lee Sumney II, 25, of 507 Hickory Circle, North Strabane, was arrested Wednesday afternoon for allegedly assaulting his 62-year-old mother, Margaret Sumney, during a confrontation at his home. He is accused of hitting her in the head and face and choking her. She was treated at the scene. He was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment of a laceration to his right ear. Sumney was arraigned before District Judge James Ellis on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond.
Gas line cut: Residents near 591 Elmwood Drive were briefly evacuated Wednesday afternoon while crews repaired a gas line that was cut at a home at 591 Elmwood. South Strabane police said it appears the line was cut when copper pipe was stolen from a hot water tank.
Woman charged: Ashley Herron, 23, of Clermont Avenue, Pittsburgh, faces charges of terroristic threats and harassment after Southwest Regional police said she was involved in incidents with a 32-year-old woman on McChain Road on Aug. 4, 7, 8 and 9. The charges will proceeed by summons from the office of District Judge James Ellis.
Home burglary: A home in the 600 block of Ewing Street was burglarized Wednesday when someone broke through a rear door, Washington police said. Police said a handgun and $1,300 worth of jewelry and cash were stolen from the home.
Money stolen from parked car: More than $2,000 in cash, a purse, camera, checkbook and bank cards were stolen shortly after midnight Thursday from an unlocked car parked at the GetGo gas station at 104 E. Wylie Ave. while the driver paid for her gas, Washington police said.
